Collaborative Lawyers providing support and advice to families across Devon.
A Devon Group of Collaborative Lawyers has been formed by Family solicitors across the county whose aims are to take divorce out of the courts and help couples resolve disputes more amicably.
The group was launched at Exeter Racecourse in March 2008, and is made up of 26 lawyers from 17 family law firms across Devon. Each lawyer has been specially trained to resolve divorce and relationship breakdowns in a collaborative manner, joining together to demonstrate that couples can separate with dignity using a new alternative to Court Litigation. The lawyers provide support and advice to families across Devon who wish to avoid lengthy, costly and court-based procedures using the principles of Collaborative Law: a process by which parties and their lawyers hold meetings to find agreements that fit both parties and reach realistic and lasting solutions.
Hartnell Chanot & Partners are active members of the Devon Group of Collaborative Lawyers and have four collaborative lawyers, Jane Chanot, Norman Hartnell, Caroline Ryan and Jill Read-Brown. Each of our lawyers participate in a free half hour consultative interview to explain the procedure and differences between collaborative law and the conventional approach to family problem solving. They believe that through a collaborative approach, it is more likely that an agreed solution can be found in all personal relationships, including pre-nuptial or cohabitation agreements, and disputes around children or finances.
This unique multi-disciplinary approach is becoming increasingly popular and is all about finding a family-friendly way to divorce or separate. It recognises the need for each partner to treat the other respectfully and to assist the couple in reaching their own solutions.
