Paul Marsh, the President of the Law Society, has issued a statement urging the public to use specialist family lawyers if they are considering a divorce.
"The legal formality of getting a divorce is a relatively straightforward process. What is generally much more complex is sorting out the practical issues such as where each person will live, who gets what, and arrangements for any children. So before agreeing matters with your partner it is advisable to consult a family law specialist solicitor who will advise you about your rights and the options available to you."
He also highlighted the growing use and benefits of collaborative law as a means to help the public from going to court.
