Bullying on Exeter FM this Sunday at 9am

Join us on Exeter FM this Sunday between 9 and 9.30am as Claire Reynolds joins Paul Nero to discuss bullying and cyber bullying.

The truth about bullying

Statistics show 8 out of 10 children get bullied at some point in their school lives and that 1/3 of all children are being cyberbullied.

There are many forms of bullying such as: calling names, being teased, pushed about, taking money or possessions, having rumours spread, being ignored, physical violence, being threatened / intimidated,
“cyber-bullying” (e-mail, instant messaging, chat rooms, social networking sites, mobile phones, on-line gaming) and “happy slapping” (recording bullying on a mobile phone).

Since September 1999 the government made it a requirement of every school to have an anti-bullying policy. It continues to make tackling bullying in schools a key priority and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has made it clear that no form of bullying should be tolerated. Bullying in our schools is taken very seriously; it is not a normal part of growing up and it can ruin lives.

The DCSF supports schools in designing their anti-bullying policies, and their strategies to tackle bullying, by providing comprehensive, practical-guidance documents. Regional advisers with expertise in the field of bullying are also on hand to help schools implement the guidance and draw on best practice.
