What if you cannot agree?

Try alternative methods of dispute resolution before going to court.

If you cannot agree on arrangements for where your child should live, you should consider attending mediation before applying to the Courts.

Mediation is not appropriate if you have experienced domestic violence, if you have a disability, or have English as a second language.

Another alternative is Collaborative Law which is about making key decisions about your future all together in the same room, face to face.

Local Support Services

Devon Family Solutions is based in Exeter and provides a range of services developed to assist those experiencing family change. Their mediators, psychologists and family counsellors offer support not only to those going through the mediation process, but for anyone involved in family legal proceedings in the South West.

However, if you still cannot agree, the Court will make a decision based upon what it considers to be in the child's best interests.
