Founded in 1991 by Norman Hartnell, Hartnell Chanot & Partners (formerly known as Hartnells) has grown to become the largest family law solicitors in Exeter, Devon and the South West; employing fourteen solicitors, legal executives and trainee's, and a total dedicated staff of over 30.
We specialise in divorce and separation and are able to offer eligible clients public funding (formerly called legal aid). Our team of divorce solicitors hold a variety of specialist qualifications and service standards including:

- Family Law Panel
- Family Mediation Panel
- Resolution (formerly) the Solicitors Family Law Association).
Regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), we have a core group of collaborative lawyers and mediators and are part of a pilot scheme called FAInS, organized by the Legal Services Commission (LSC) who recognize that family related issues are often linked with financial problems, health issues, alcohol and substance abuse. As part of the initiative we have a wide range of referral sources to provide whatever form of support a family needs.

Counselling
In our experience outsourced counselling is subject to a long waiting list and in contrast, our in-house counsellor Terry Timlett MBE is available to see you immediately at a cost tailored to your means and in the familiar surroundings of our office, tying in with the issues about which you are seeking legal advice from our team.
Mediation
The firm understands the importance of mediation in resolving matters and we have established a good referral system to Devon Family Mediation Agency Limited, one of the largest and most well respected mediation agencies in the Country.
